M Ur Guard
Watercolour on Paper / 35 cms x 53 cms
This painting is based on a visit by the artist to the ancient ruins at Lonar in India, where several old structures from the 6th century now lie in ruins, standing as testimony to days gone by. The title suggests the ancient architectural symbols for guarding important places. The sword conveys this: a warrior posted to protect the place for ever. The artist was attracted to the concept, thoughts and forms which were carved so immaculately.
