Self Portrait Made by my Voice 00:01.75 – Cat Thompson, Camberwell College of Arts
Ilford Multigrade IV Resin Coated Pearl, Perspex / 239 x 131cm
These works explore the fundamental aspects of portraiture and experiment with traditional photographic techniques. Developing the idea that a portrait is a description of the subject, I transformed my verbal description of myself into light: an essential aspect of the photographic process. I held a voice-reactive bulb, whilst in contact with large-scale photographic paper. As I moved and spoke during each exposure, I produced a completely unique photogram.
