Underfire II by Janine Bailey, Sydney
Wax and charcoal on Lana Aquarelle 640gsm / 116 x 163 cm
Underfire II (2016) is a wax and charcoal drawing that visually represents the physical and psychological struggle of a firefighter battling a large factory fire. A GPS tracker recorded the location, time and speed of the firefighter. The resulting GPS trace and the memory of the event were later reinterpreted by the artist into a landscape drawing. The work is part of a series that investigates how architecture and technology reshapes our movement through material and digital spaces.
