Polly Bennett, Colour Measurements Series

City & Guilds of London Art School

My current work responds to my time in Iceland. Through recalling the geology and landscape of Iceland, the snow-domes freeze my memories in time. However, a whole new world is created as water is absorbed through the snowcrete, acting as a catalyst for various changes inside the dome. The watercolour abstractions deconstruct Iceland’s landscape, focusing on the basic elements of colour and the horizontal. The piece of paper shows the effects of water, through being submerged in a bath overnight. This water is then trapped inside the domes.
