In my studio practice I investigate how chance and control, time and natural phenomena (gravitation, temperature, air movement,

evaporation, etc.) interact with a variety of painting materials to affect and change the outcome of the painting process. I work

mainly with acrylic paints and acrylic mediums layered on primed canvas, using techniques inspired by Abstract Expressionist

painting, such as energetic brushwork, paint pouring, spattering, spraying, airbrushing, and texturing. Colour theories, colour

pigments and the way they are manufactured and used in creative processes are also areas of major interest to me. While colour

blending and the carefully layered aspect of my work are reminiscent of the old masters’ painting techniques, the subject of my

paintings is the surface of the canvas, which becomes a world in itself. The importance of visual elements like colour, shape, texture,

brushwork, composition and technique take priority over suggest ion of figuration or narrative content. W ater is an essential element

in creating the worlds of my painting, symbolic of the life pulsating in every living creature. Each of my paintings becomes a virtual

being exuding vitality and transmitting its energy through the way water, pigment, light and canvas interconnect and communicate

with each other and the environments around, over time and space. Each of my paintings is created over a period of weeks or

months. Colour washes and brushstrokes, gestural action and energetic movement are preserved between layers of polymer

medium, creating a visible record of accumulation and change.
