The Second Impression B, by Marike Korting
Pen and Ink Paper / 40 cms x 40 cms
Like the Rorschach or “ink blot” test, these artworks suggest hidden meaning. A repetitive pattern and mirrored sequence creates a strange satisfaction. In the instance of a butterfly one can imagine that the inverse images were created when the insect closed its wings and the pattern was imprinted and doubled. The profiles within the wings represent the human element. A unique de ja vu of the known and recognisable, whilst insinuating an added depth. The impressions are multiplied visually, but also in meaning because of their subjectivity to the perspective of the viewer.
